Afternoon Delight

Saturday morn, and nicely hung over for an afternoon of drinking cheap beer with Tom in the garden. My pals normally come over at night and I keep saying afternoon is the best time to enjoy the garden. Like, you can actually see it. We had a great time and Patrick joined later on. I think finally my pals are starting to understand who I am and why I do the things I do, and in turn it becomes clearer to me. The reason I am not a millionnaire and screwing everyone for money even though I could. Because I am watching the race of humans clamouring for work and cash and I just can't join in because I think they got it wrong. I don't like the direction we are going in and that stops me from even starting, even though I could lick most of them. Like at my school, Catholic and run by stern nuns, yet the mums look like million dollar prostitutes. Asia is different from Falangland though probably less so today. The scramble for cash is seen as a good thing and you can fuck over whoever you want as long as you can get more. Tom told me about the horror on a girls face when he accosted her after she queue jumped at the gas station. This happens all the time here. Thai culture dictates that you do not make a scene, therefore rude people can walk all over other people without being stopped or put in their place. When the occasional falang objects the reaction is of utter horror. Open-mouthed they back away in disbelief. Tom states to his detriment that he cannot stand by and do nothing. It happened with me at this house we live in. Upon first viewing, we called up the landlady, a rich, miserable sloth-like lump of flesh, who came out to discuss and show us the house. As she arrived, so did a Thai man who was interested in the house too. He totally intervened, ignored us and took away the lady to talk about the house. I hung back and Pit let the guy take over. We never got to talk to the landlady. In the end, he was flake and not interested, and we took the house about 6 months later. I think though in the future I will adopt Tom's attitude. But even though good manners and behavoir are more engrained in English culture, I think that it has gone already as celebrity worship and politicians and royal members openly engage with gangsters.

Anyway, we listened to some very cool tunes and sank loads of beer. A nice album is the Stones, "Though the Vaults Darkly" a collection of forgotten tunes. Also enjoyed was some very early Santana and Eric Clapton albums. Domski's thread on Bolt.org is a treasure trove for quality music.

The other night I showed Tom, "My Left Foot" which he loved. Patrick said the household was very similar to his own having 12 brothers and sisters.

End of Another Weekend

Sunday and the close of another weekend.

I was feeling a bit blue last night as I haven't seen any of my friends in over a fortnight. Mainly because I was sick but the virus is so nearly dead now - thank goodness.

I have played a few levels of Starcraft 2 and it is rathedr good actually so I shall persevere with it.

Found a huge scorpion in the garden yesterday. I took a video of it so I shall post that later.

Tom came to my rescue at nine last night, so it was great to chat and sink a few beers.

I can eat regular food again now after my strict diet of salty chicken soup. It really started to get me down, and having to eat raw ginger, shallots and garlic isn't the most pleasant thing in the world.

Just got hold of a new shooter called Singularity which looks a hoot.

Life at home is very easy and I am so glad we don't live, or desire to live a stressful life.

Been quite into sci-fi movies at the moment as I have found a few threads dedicated to them. Seen some corkers and hopefully will see a few more. Tom will come to join maybe tomorrow or Tuesday.

Starcraft 2 and music review

Worth mentioning, as it took me a few goes to suss out the crack, but I now have the just released Starcraft 2 up and running. I now Peter was a keen player back in the bunker, so this may be of mild interest to him. It looks okay, but I think I prefer Nepoleon.

The onslaught againt the virus is gathering pace. Even Utube as clips on how to kill mucus on the lungs. It is reassuring to know that there is a lot of help out there.

I have increased my dosage of ginger and, when I felt I was slacking off on the treatment, I put the pressure back on. I am determined to kill this bastard as meanly as possible.

I have since read that rice and bread are both to be avoided, and heavily salted chicken soup is a, and I quote, mucusbuster. After no beer for more than a week, I did allow myself two small cans of Guinness. Well, it is Friday!

Hoping to see Tom tomorrow night as I just acquired Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps tour of 1975 (I think) complete with Star Wars Jawas setting up the stage and dragging him off in a makeshift bed at the end of Hey Hey My My. Awesome. Am hoping to nail this on the guitar as it will go well with Sweet Virginia and my handful of other songs.

Following this, I did a search for best Van Morrison albums. I was still using the list that Stuart Barrett gave me back in 1989, namely;

1. Moondance
2. Into the Music
3. Astral Weeks
4 Common One

I still really enjoy these albums to this day, though Moondance and Astral Weeks have suffered from overplay, Into the Music and Common One still have me in their grasp.

Added to this was my brother's recommendation of Blowin' Yer Mind, which is classic, if only for TB Sheets.

After a quick search I have now upgraded this to include;

Tupelo Honey, Veedon Fleece, St. Dominic's Preview.

Here's hoping for some good sounds.

Also, thanking Joe Luden for Prince Buster King of Ska.

Other noted recent acquisitions include; Bert Jansch's Nicola, Santana's Caravanserai (strongly backed by Tom), Death In Vegas (everything).

There is a whole bunch of other very cool albums I have liked for sometime now including Kathleen Edwards, Taj Mahal, Joan Armatrading, The Zombies and following on from my recent Stones revival that has extended to some Beatles albums I wasn't so familar with or hadn't heard in a long time.

Enjoy to whet your ears...

Fighting the Sickness

I have come down again with my old Nemesis; the mucus on the lungs ploy.

Once again I have begun, and hopefully, almost finished the treatment as it does appear to be in decline. Ginger, shallots and garlic are all consumed raw, salt water flushed up my nostrils and the old towel over the head trick to a streaming cocktail of the above. Also, tons of vitamin C drinks, no dairy products (thanks Rob) and no beer or anything cold. It's a horrible cough and after a night of lying down I awake to a 5 minute retching to get the bloody stuff up and out.

We had a four day weekend which enabled me to take a good rest and try to sort it out. The boys all went away, so I watched some cracking movies, namely, Ghandi, Knowing, Outlander, Things We Lost in the Fire, Unthinkable. All were great and worthy viewing.

My PC also packed up after I tried one of those "improve the performance of your PC" programs. What a lots of shit. It ceased up and could not even load Windows. Off to the shop that went, which gave me some downtime. Always a pleasure when the PC packs up and I can do other things again, like living. I picked up Michael Caine's "What's it All About?" which Patrick very kindly bought on my behalf on a recent trip to the islands. An incredible story and I will be so sad when it is finished. This is, of course, written by the great man himself, unlike the biographies he also got for me on John Peel, Ustinov and David Niven. These books were bland an boring and I didn't make it very far. Of course, I read The Moon's a Balloon in the far distant past and listened to Dear Me by Ustinov in Spain last year, both of which are excellent and hilarious.

Wonderful to hear of Peter's wedding and glad it went so well.

So I have been busy lying in the back garden and doing some sweeping and weeding, and the occasional walk in the woods.

School is fun and easy and family life is quite blissful. I am so glad I stopped the private classes. It is easier to be a bit more careful with money and have lots of free time than struggling with constant lesson planning and driving back and forth into town to teach. I know that when you have a bit more money one only wastes it on expensive foods anyway.

I got hold of Napoleon Total War which I can recommend and am attempting to acquire Starcraft 2 which has just been made available. The crack seems to have the better of me at the moment but I shall persevere.

The weather (oh dear) is quite pleasant; cloudy and not so hot and I have been sleeping quite well, though can rise at anytime from about 4:30 am. Normally then I go into the kitchen and make my witch's potions to kill the virus that lurks inside me.
