Starcraft 2 and music review

Worth mentioning, as it took me a few goes to suss out the crack, but I now have the just released Starcraft 2 up and running. I now Peter was a keen player back in the bunker, so this may be of mild interest to him. It looks okay, but I think I prefer Nepoleon.

The onslaught againt the virus is gathering pace. Even Utube as clips on how to kill mucus on the lungs. It is reassuring to know that there is a lot of help out there.

I have increased my dosage of ginger and, when I felt I was slacking off on the treatment, I put the pressure back on. I am determined to kill this bastard as meanly as possible.

I have since read that rice and bread are both to be avoided, and heavily salted chicken soup is a, and I quote, mucusbuster. After no beer for more than a week, I did allow myself two small cans of Guinness. Well, it is Friday!

Hoping to see Tom tomorrow night as I just acquired Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps tour of 1975 (I think) complete with Star Wars Jawas setting up the stage and dragging him off in a makeshift bed at the end of Hey Hey My My. Awesome. Am hoping to nail this on the guitar as it will go well with Sweet Virginia and my handful of other songs.

Following this, I did a search for best Van Morrison albums. I was still using the list that Stuart Barrett gave me back in 1989, namely;

1. Moondance
2. Into the Music
3. Astral Weeks
4 Common One

I still really enjoy these albums to this day, though Moondance and Astral Weeks have suffered from overplay, Into the Music and Common One still have me in their grasp.

Added to this was my brother's recommendation of Blowin' Yer Mind, which is classic, if only for TB Sheets.

After a quick search I have now upgraded this to include;

Tupelo Honey, Veedon Fleece, St. Dominic's Preview.

Here's hoping for some good sounds.

Also, thanking Joe Luden for Prince Buster King of Ska.

Other noted recent acquisitions include; Bert Jansch's Nicola, Santana's Caravanserai (strongly backed by Tom), Death In Vegas (everything).

There is a whole bunch of other very cool albums I have liked for sometime now including Kathleen Edwards, Taj Mahal, Joan Armatrading, The Zombies and following on from my recent Stones revival that has extended to some Beatles albums I wasn't so familar with or hadn't heard in a long time.

Enjoy to whet your ears...

Fighting the Sickness

I have come down again with my old Nemesis; the mucus on the lungs ploy.

Once again I have begun, and hopefully, almost finished the treatment as it does appear to be in decline. Ginger, shallots and garlic are all consumed raw, salt water flushed up my nostrils and the old towel over the head trick to a streaming cocktail of the above. Also, tons of vitamin C drinks, no dairy products (thanks Rob) and no beer or anything cold. It's a horrible cough and after a night of lying down I awake to a 5 minute retching to get the bloody stuff up and out.

We had a four day weekend which enabled me to take a good rest and try to sort it out. The boys all went away, so I watched some cracking movies, namely, Ghandi, Knowing, Outlander, Things We Lost in the Fire, Unthinkable. All were great and worthy viewing.

My PC also packed up after I tried one of those "improve the performance of your PC" programs. What a lots of shit. It ceased up and could not even load Windows. Off to the shop that went, which gave me some downtime. Always a pleasure when the PC packs up and I can do other things again, like living. I picked up Michael Caine's "What's it All About?" which Patrick very kindly bought on my behalf on a recent trip to the islands. An incredible story and I will be so sad when it is finished. This is, of course, written by the great man himself, unlike the biographies he also got for me on John Peel, Ustinov and David Niven. These books were bland an boring and I didn't make it very far. Of course, I read The Moon's a Balloon in the far distant past and listened to Dear Me by Ustinov in Spain last year, both of which are excellent and hilarious.

Wonderful to hear of Peter's wedding and glad it went so well.

So I have been busy lying in the back garden and doing some sweeping and weeding, and the occasional walk in the woods.

School is fun and easy and family life is quite blissful. I am so glad I stopped the private classes. It is easier to be a bit more careful with money and have lots of free time than struggling with constant lesson planning and driving back and forth into town to teach. I know that when you have a bit more money one only wastes it on expensive foods anyway.

I got hold of Napoleon Total War which I can recommend and am attempting to acquire Starcraft 2 which has just been made available. The crack seems to have the better of me at the moment but I shall persevere.

The weather (oh dear) is quite pleasant; cloudy and not so hot and I have been sleeping quite well, though can rise at anytime from about 4:30 am. Normally then I go into the kitchen and make my witch's potions to kill the virus that lurks inside me.

Boney

A few things to report...

A long weekend which is nice, though I have been struck down with a fairly mild flu which is not so nice. Grace is also a tad ill. I have begun my Nature's Cure All of eating raw shallots and garlic, breathing in a healing potion, salt water up the noise and tons of vitamins to kill the lurgy.

Just downloaded a new game. Total War Napoleon. Looks like great fun - and probably of interest to some here if you have time.

The boys (Patrick, Tom, Danny and Chris) have headed up to Ao Nang for some laughs. I am fine at home and it is very comfy here mooching about.

Acquired a truly excellent 4 part series from Aus. called Battleships. Fantastic documentation of its history including the Dreadnoughts of WWI. A terrible story of empire building.

Now downloading some of the Battlefields series including Manchuria and Italy, where dad was.

Baby time...

Movie Night Returns

After long debate and cross checking movie night shall return after an absence of more than a year, possibely two, I really can't remember.

The invited guests are Don, Tom and Patrick, with a possible opening for a weekly guest or two.

Don sadly is away in Canada after losing his job and having nothing to do. He'll be back real soon.

Lee is sadly not invited as he appears most unfriendly.

From now on my daytime thoughts will be plagued by which movie to play, especially with a hardcire Aussie ion the audience who hates everything.

I couldn't believe it. He hates Excaliber. But then, when I re-watched it, I turned it off

Update

Been a while since I blogged it. Didn't feel the urge.

Anyway, what's new?

Well, I have been chilling out quite a lot. Relaxing in the garden, on the PC, drinking coffee, seeing the boys on the weekend and stuff like that.

School is going very well.

Grace is the real star. She's just so sweet right now as her personality develops. She has lots of fun and is a very happy little girl.

Home Alone II - Fear and Loathing

Oi called up yesterday morning and announced she was coming home.

"No way!" I exclaimed, "You've only been gone a day!"

Grace has been crying in the evening, but very happy during the day up at the farm.

I told her to give it a few days and relax with her family. I didn't want her coming home and getting bored and not smiling again in a few days. I think she has taken the hint.

Life alone has been okay so far. Tom has kept me good company and Don is coming around for a Saturday morning coffee. We both wake up excruciatingly early so at least we can hook up in the early morn amicably.

So in my time alone at the house I have been relaxing outside and I had another quick go on Grand Theft Auto 4, which although amazing, still cannot have me reaching for the quit key after fifteen minutes or so.

I have sat through a few good movies uninterrupted though;

Crossing Over (Harrison Ford) - immigration officer in LA - not bad

Disgrace - John Malkavich in South Africa and very weird and awesome. Recommended.

The Road - Way too depressing. Avoid.

I Love You Phillip Morris - Very funny but I switched off when Ewwwwan McGregor came on.

In the Electric Mist - Tommy Lee Jones in a great detective story way on down in the Deep South Louisiana. Excellent.

These days it is exercise and keeping myself alive which are in my foremost thoughts. That's not when I am enjoying a beer and doing nothing.

Home Alone

Oi and Grace have gone with Grandma to Chum Pon, leaving me to....

Party!

I sat in the garden for an hour feeling a bit glum not really knowing what to do, stay at home or make a call.

I made a call and shot round to Don's. Tom joined and after a bit we headed back out my way to the famous Som Tam restaurant where we enjoyed Grilled Pork and Chicken, Som Tam with sticky rice and sauces. Tom and I had beer while Don drank a soda. Then we came back to mine for a few more beers, happiness and we watched "Ghengis Blues" which is awesome.

I passed out at some point.

I have invited Tom over again, maybe to watch Brooklyn's Finest which is just so awesome.

My phone is broken so incoming calls from Oi are not really happening. I suppose tomorrow I will have to fork out for some cheapie phone to tide me over.

School is sweet and I have given them a test on what we have done since starting in May. Doing tests is easy on the body so can take a rest.

I have been doing some yoga today and some gardening. Solitary, soothing pursuits.
