Gymtastic

Well, It's Saturday and last night I got up and played 3 songs during the break at the Co-Art bar. I played Perfect Day, No You and Stories of Me. Fortunately for the world, there weren't too many people there, but they clapped and Patrick and Danny were my drinking buddies.

Oi has gone on a college field trip, back later tonight.

This morning I got up for my 7 o'clock guitar lesson and then went down the gym. Third time since my new regime started and so far going well. Actually, I have to keep telling myself to slow down and stop rushing everything. I have acres of time to do everything, so I have to make myself go slow. Anything from going down the stairs to lifting the weights (this is very important). The I went into town and bought some food to make my famous salami salad sandwich, of which I ate three today.

I had 3 cans of Guinness left over from last night. I drank two this afternoon and fell asleep on the sofa while watching an Alan Rickman movie, Bottle Shock - about wine. Later, I just had to go and buy a bottle.

Old Man Don is coming over to help me drink it.

I'm also trying to do some album research, as I have a huge back-catalogue of albums and I really need to listen to them. I have started with Radiohead's OK Computer, which I have never got around to hearing. Tom told me it was awesome and needed to be listened to in its entirety.

Actually, for some reason I am having a bit of an Indie resurgence right now. It must have been the new Verve album.

For some great art, check out Banksy's site;

I am feeling great after having been to the gym this week. I just hope I can keep it up. It ain't a real effort, just the grueling 45 minute bike ride, but that is the key to the whole thing.

Enough for now...

Jim's Gym

Just got back from the gym on a baking Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, I couldn't do the grueling workout I was aiming to do, as my chest and armpits are still killing me from Mondays enthusiastic launch back to the gym. However, I have always been good on the bike and have quite good leg muscles so did a 45 minute slog on L12. It's good to be back doing it and is an effort to reverse the forces of gravity and old age, so as not to be a sad ass 40 something. Also, Don and Patrick are both regular gymmers, so there is no excuse for me not to drag myself off the sofa and fuck myself up big time.

Pregnancy still dominates the mood of the day and Oi has retreated to some woman place where men are greeted cordially at the door and can come no further. Don said he just jerked off in bed next to his bint when this happened. I haven't quite resorted to that, and I can raise her jealousy levels by rushing off into the next room to play with my Goo-balls.

Line of the moment has to be, "I have to look after my baby."

I suddenly remembered the Stereo MCs and have still downloaded a whole bunch of their stuff. Fuck, it still sounds fucking great.

Movie has to be Frost/Nixon. How awesome and new respect, for the much respected David Frost, though according to Wiki, a ton of folk hated him including Peter Cook and the Monty Python team. Yet, I somehow think Pete Cook probably hated a lot of people.

Private class last night I treated "The Little Madams' (a bunch of spoiled 7 year olds, some nice, some Uber-bitches in the making) to a cookery class. Yes, Mum's famous Tuna sarnies. You know the ones; onion, sweetcorn, mayo, salt and pepper on toasted whole wheat (or the floppy sponge that passes for wholewheat in this bread barren land).

They loved it.

Tomorrow, for the nervous spotty teenagers, I shall increase production at their already brimming zit farms with some of Yan Tessier's famous Toasted Cheese sarnies, covered in tomato ketchup and heavily spiced with a thick coating of freshly ground pepper. I'll be interested to see how those ones go down. I remember affectionately for me, it was love at first bite. Though so rich and fat ladenly delicious, rarely sampled in this Post-Modern age of waistlines and baby talk. How utterly crap.

Ta Awfully,

Goo

Sunday night and finally feeling better after feeling a bit poo for the last 3 days. It might have something to do with going out and drinking beer. I guess I am just out of practice and getting old. Anyway, nights in with Oi are very tranquil and relaxing.

Had to tell you guys about a couple of really fun games out there. Both short and sweet little games that most should enjoy. First is Crayon Physics where you have to draw mechanics to get a ball to a star over various levels. Pulleys and weights and string. The other is World of Goo which is building towers and bridges with little sticky goo-balls. Both fun, friendly and addictive puzzle games.

I went over to Don's today after dropping Oi off at uni and had a long catch up chat and he cooked a wicked pasta and salad. This afternoon I watch Gattaca which is great sci-fi.

Oi is feeling a bit better now and I have been feeling a bit strange. Apparently, the guy can have some weird stuff going on too.

An Embarassment Avoided

My millions of fans will be relieved to learn that, after a bit of groundwork, my hard drive is up and running again. It was the cable that was faulty. Thus the album collection and the photos of the pretty girls are all saved.

I have so many albums that took so long to find, it would be a disaster to lose them all, from Hefner to Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Morcheeba, Nick Drake and Led Zeppelin, The Smiths and Nanci Griffiths.

The babes can remain a closely guarded secret.

Hard Driven

OMG!

My hard drive has just packed up on me. I can't even access it. My Ga-zillions of albums and pix of girlies now remains inaccessible.

By some lucky kite, I happened to have pulled off Echobelly onto my main drive prior to this catastrophe as it was playing up.

The thing I'm worried about thou, is the lady in the shop, who happens to really like Oi, taking a peek at not a small collection of babes if I take it in to repair.

Oh the humanity!

Especially now, as the job is done, clamlike qualities have become the norm.

Sunday Morning

Third time I have written this latest post and keep abandoning it as it is shite.

Anyway, a bit of an Echobelly revival right now having discovered a ton of their vids on Utube. Also, still really like that new Verve album and the Chess Story compilation is awesome.

I thought I might try to get in shape before I come home so as not to be completely fat. Whether I do or not, remains to be seen.

Oi is bearing up under the pain of pregnancy. She feels fairly uncomfortable, with dizzy spells and she's pissed that most food now tastes horrible. The only thing she will eat is rice soup, and only from a particular shop near her old house. So I am obliged to trek across town to get it. That's fine as it is always exciting on the streets of Hat Yai, especially at dinner time when everyone is about.

I bought a new hammock in Koh Phang Ngan which is tres comfortable and I have hooked it up on the front balcony, so I can watch the bods wizz by on their motorcycles and read Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.

I saw an excellent film yesterday. French, tranlates as Murmurs of the Heart (1971). Funny as fuck and quite racy. I didn't know it was a comedy and kept expecting something awful to happen to the 15 year old boy that the story is based around. You must see it, and the final scene is priceless.

Classes have been going really well and my style of teaching becomes freer and freer and lax. Somehow it works and I keep the kids on their toes with tons of reading for the little ones and tons of talking for the big 'uns.

Had a good night out with the boys the other day and didn't get to bed until 4.

Have to buy my ticket soon, and it ain't long until the end of term, so I will have some free time.

John Lennon Forgiven

I have just read in the Guardian, that The Pope has forgiven John Lennon.

Like the comment said, Has anyone forgiven the Pope?

Bobbo's Wedding

I am coming back on 12th April for about a week before flying to Spain. Be nice to see everyone and maybe catch a gig if someone can book something. Fly to Spain on 21st from Bobbo's wedding with Joel and Peter and then back to UK for a day and back to Thai on 2nd May.

Oi will stay in Hat Yai as she is with child.

Actually, am looking forward to it, first time in 4 years. Flying on some cheap Muslim flight Etihad? for a bargain price.

Keep your diaries free. I lost my drivers license years ago (on a beach in Samui) so may not be driving.

I am looking forward to quaffing vast amounts of real ale and walking on the South Downs, getting drunk in Portsmouth and seeing how old everyone looks.

See you soon,

Homecoming and Pregnancy

Oh, I do love knocking off at 11.30 on a Wednesday. Lately, I have got into the filthy habit of buying some Guinness on the way home, or today, a bottle of wine. Such indulgence. But when the world is busy destroying itself, why the fuck not, eh?

Anyway, back at school this week and the kids are as lovely as ever. Private classes also going very well.

I haven't stated on here yet (I don't think) but Oi is pregnant with my child. Ok, our child. She has been fairly sick which is a shame but she is fighting through it. Gee has been great in helping her.

I am guessing there is no way to know how it feels until it appears, so there.

Before then I am obliged to return home to see the execution of my brother. We have to thank Nick for all these great phrases. So, some of you will be equally cursed and blessed by my company if you wish. I anticipate being in Blighty for a spell and then Spain (this I am looking forward too). Yes, I am hoping for some fine wine and cheese and ham and a chat with Raffa if he remembers me. Obviously, I will have to leave Oi behind which is a bind but it would appear I am under strict orders from the family, and upon reflection, even if I die in the plane, I know that I should attend the beheading.

Luckily, married life for me has been very easy. I forced my brain to calculate that a good person as a wife outweighed everything else. My sister, Tish, once told me, "Marry a friend, not a lover." I never forgot those words. And with Oi, she is a very happy, easy going and lovely person. We are yet to have a single disagreement. I suppose this is a good thing, though is could be deemed as having "no fire".

Anyway, it ain't long to the end of term really. My trip back will have to be quite short so as not to leave Oi for too long. So, if you want to see me, plan it, as I certainly won't be in UK for long. William, take note, my missing you last time was stupid, and I saw a bunch of people and spend a long time kicking around on my tod as everyone was working.

Music? I have been listening to the latest Verve album, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers and am currently DLing a huge Chess Records 15 CD package which should be awesome. As usual, Old Man Don blew me away with his incredible i-pood collection of jazz and blues and put me to shame. Paolo Costa? Know him?

Movies? Vicki Christina Barcelona Woody Allen at top form! I was studying Oi during the lesbian scenes. She thought they were crazy, but she did like Secretary a lot, with heart throb James Spader.

Ploughing through the 3rd Lankhmar book, "Swords in the Mist" and the great fable of barbarian Faf'hrd and cut purse Gray Mouser parting company and Faf'hrd donning goatskin loincloth and assuming the role of disciple of Issek of the Jug on the Street of the Gods. I don't push anything these days (Don says offer information, not advice) but if you are a mite crazy (like me and Peter) you may enjoy. For me, they are works of great literature. And I recently informed Peter of an undiscovered sixth part to the series; The Knights and Knaves of Lankhmar. He confirm he knew of it not, I too am tres excited about this undiscovered gem.

On the list to take to the printers is Moby Dick, Kim, Barchester Towers, Paradise Lost to name a few. Oh the coinage I save as a pirate in the land of pirates.

Gaza? Awful. But what do you expect from the Western War Machine?

New Years Day

Just back home from a quick trip to Koh Pang Ngan with Don, Tom and Patrick.

It was an awesome trip actually though quite brief. We had New Year there and celebrated in style on the beach. We rode the bikes up and managed to procure some green though unfortunatley the pigs are doing spot checks so we refrained from bringing any home.

We all had a great time and had lots of the usual chats, meals and walks.

I have just got home from the grueling ride home and the rainy season here is far from finished.
