G20 Riots

Fantastic footage of the protests on Utube.

Love the shots of the guy taking out the windows at the RBS.

The actual G20 looks like a lovely jolly for Brown and Obama and respective wives. And what they are supporting is further debt to spend their way out of a crisis. I am glad Europe isn't buying into this quicksand.

It is also worth noting that there is not much coverage of the protests.

Why?

Because it is challenging the very fabric of our society. UK is as bad as Thailand for news censorship. When a farang dies, it takes a lot to make the papers here.

Watch this space...

There wasn't really a great deal to report. I have a number of friends who were there on the day and they said it was a bit lame really with the odd spurt of throwing/swearing/rushing the police action. This was returned by the police pushing back the protestors and arresting various people. Without wanting to piss on the parade, to be honest, it was largely a group of students, crusties, trustafarians and the like who knew and cared little about why they were there and were just up for a bit of action in a vaguely 'yeh, anarchy roolz' sort of way (think Vivian from The Young Ones). It wasn't remotely like the Poll Tax riots that from the outset was ordinary people protesting against and unfair tax until things kicked off when 'rent-a-mob' turned up at Trafalgar Sq. It's also interesting to note that in UK history at least the Poll Tax riots were one of the few if not only public protests to actually go quite some way in effecting change. What happened yesterday will do a great deal of nothing much, beyond selling a few more papers.
